Title

Lord, Not America

Scripture
Pour out Your wrath on the nations that do not know You, and on the kingdoms that do not call on Your name.
(Psalm 79:6)
Devotional
This harsh prayer is hard to understand in our day, since peace with the world seems to be desired at any cost. Nevertheless, this is the prayer of a righteous man. It is a prayer worthy to be found in the Word of God. When we, as a nation, embrace the ungodly nations of the world, we are saying that it is acceptable to reject the Lord God. It is not. I often fear for America when she partners with those who not only reject the God of the Word, but are enemies of Him. I fear for America when she sides with kingdoms that are warring with people who call on the name of the Lord. I do not want America to be one of the nations that the psalmist is praying against. This devotion is written for July fourth, Independence Day. Therefore, we are to be reminded that America sought independence for religious freedom, not independence from religion. That freedom is to be a Christian based belief system. Anything short of that merits God’s wrath. May it not come to that.
