Title

Accountable For Impulse

Scripture
It is a snare for a man to devote rashly something as holy, and afterwards to reconsider his vows.
(Proverbs 20:25)
Devotional
There is a tremendous danger in reacting by impulse. It is more than often costly and regretful. For example, I have known many people who have bought things that they could not afford and afterward greatly regretted their action. Likewise people make decisions with regard to marriages, jobs, housing, and the like without counting the cost. The greater danger comes when we do so claiming that it is of the Lord. We make wedding vows and over half of us break these vows. We forget that it is called holy matrimony. In the same manner, we are to be accountable for every word that proceeds out of our mouths. Our “yes” is to mean “yes” and our “no,” “no”. Every word we speak is to be spoken as if they were the oracles of God. We are going to be held accountable by the things we vow to God. Every idle word men speak will be called to account on the Day of Judgment.
