Mercy Triumphs

Scripture
If I say, “My foot slips,” Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up.
(Psalm 94:18)
Devotional
God’s mercy is His lovingkindness. When I slip on the slippery slope of life because of my sin nature, His mercy grabs my arm. God’s mercy does not overlook guilt; it atones for it by the sacrifice of Christ. Sin is never overlooked or treated as if it were anything other than an infraction of God’s law. When we sin, we are deserving of the ramifications of that sin, but the mercy of God sends it to the cross of Calvary. Therefore, “Mercy triumphs over judgment.”(1) If God has and is merciful toward us, should we not be merciful toward each other? When your brother slips, do you push him farther down or do you grab hold of him? Let us again consider James 2:13, “For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.” Here is what I have found: those who show no mercy are often more guilty than the one to whom they show no mercy.
