(Proverbs 1:5)
Devotional
Here we have the purpose of the proverbs of Solomon, the son of David. He not only tells us what the wise do, but he tells us who the wise are. It is not only what one does that makes him or her wise, but also it is who he or she is that makes one wise. The wise are wise because of what they do, and what they do is what makes them wise. Our text teaches us that the wise will hear and increase learning. Likewise, he who learns and increases in learning will become wise. Therefore, wisdom is available to all. If you can understand this you will attain wise counsel. If you do not understand and attain wise counsel, you will eventually receive understanding. Wisdom can therefore be learned and it can also be imparted. The latter is the greatest and most to be sought after. It is the wisdom that comes from above. It is the wisdom that is a Spiritual gift of God. "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding."[1]
