Understanding is the principle thing. The purpose of fundamental common sense (which is not that common) and the purpose of the commandments along with discernment are to acquire the great treasure of understanding. With it we find the knowledge of God and grasp the fear of the Lord. If this is so, and it is so, then understanding is available to all who seek it. The problem arises when we fail to heed the elementary principles of Christ.[4] To go on to perfection, we must first be established in the fundamentals. We must give our ears to the wise before we can apply out hearts to understanding. We must lift our voices and search for the right answers. To succeed in the classroom of life, we will have to be willing to be obedient students
