Title

Do Not Despise What You Do Not Understand

Scripture
He who is devoid of wisdom despises his neighbor, but a man of understanding holds his peace.
(Proverbs 11:12)
Devotional
Here is what wisdom knows about any given situation or a particular person: There will always be at least one thing unknown about a circumstance or a person that will hinder our judgment. That is why we must be slow, very slow, to judge a situation and refrain from judging people.

We can and should judge actions according to the Scriptures, but we must not bring an indictment based on emotion or opinion. We, for the most part, base our opinions of people and situations from a biased conviction or a one-sided view. This is why we will inevitably judge others by our own deceitful hearts[1] and our own motives.

Therefore as we are instructed in the book of James, "Be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God."[2] Let us be people of understanding and hold our peace.
