Title

Teach Them Whom to Fear

Scripture
Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of The Lord.
(Psalm 34:11)
Devotional
What do you teach your children to fear? Unfortunately, we, more than often, unintentionally teach them to fear everything except the very things they need to fear. When we lie or cheat, we teach them to fear getting caught instead of lying or stealing. When we argue and shout instead of talking and listening, we teach them to fear losing more than not being right. We must teach our children the cost of sin. We must teach them that there is a price to be paid for our wrongdoings. We are to teach them that it is never right to do wrong. We are to teach them the fear of the Lord by letting them know that no matter what, God knows and that He chastises those whom He loves and that He loves them very much. Herein is teaching our children the fear of the Lord. Let us not only teach our children the fear of the Lord, let us learn it ourselves. Remember, "For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights."[1]
