Title

His Word Requires His Spirit

Scripture
He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.
(Luke 24:45)
Devotional
There is no true understanding of the scriptures aside from the Holy Spirit's revelation. We can study and we should, but all the studying in the world will not reveal the mind of the Lord without the His presence in our lives. There is much to understand even with the carnal mind, but the eternal application is spiritual. As we therefore spiritually mature, we are to gain greater understanding. To this there is no end. For more than three decades I have given myself to God's Word, yet it is new every day. It says of itself, "The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."[11] The width and depth of God's word is without limits. It shall never be outlived. Jesus said of it, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away."[12]
