Every word of Scripture has a multitude of lessons. Here with the miraculous feeding of the five thousand there are several lessons: From faith to obedience and from organization to prudence. Andrew, Peter's brother came with a little faith, a boy with five loves and two small fish. Secondly the multitude was instructed to sit down in groups. The lesson of our text is that of prudence. Jesus just performed a great miracle, yet He was prudent enough not to waste what remained. The wise will receive the message and understand that there is never room for waste or the squandering of resources. Even though there was an abundance remaining, Jesus did not take for granted the blessings of the miracle. Neither should we. Abundance should never be cause for casual waste. Notice the character of those with great possessions, they are careful with the things they have and seldom waste or squander their possessions.
