Title

Dam Up The Waters Of Strife

Scripture
The beginning of strife is like releasing water; therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts.
(Proverbs 17:14)
Devotional
I have a rule that I attempt to keep to the best of my ability. It is often hard to do, nevertheless when I keep it, it pays great dividends. Here it is, When I am angered or hurt I wait twenty-four hours to respond. I more than often have to bite my proverbial lip to do so; nevertheless when I do, I find that I have a much more realistic view and understanding of the hurt or the cause of the anger. I am able to respond in a godlier manner and I find there will more than often be healing instead of division and escalating anger and hurt. Therefore, when I find myself wanting to open the floodgates of strife and instead dam up my lips, the sea of anger calms. I understand that few things feel any better than releasing strife and biting back. However few things pay any greater profit than stopping the waters of strife and contention.
