Title

The Foolish Mouth

Scripture
A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
(Proverbs 18:7)
Devotional
Repeatedly, the fruit of the fool is found in his mouth. Likewise the evidence of foolishness is found on the lips. Therefore, let us listen to ourselves, our manner of conversation, the subject matter that fills our time and the truthfulness of our words. Do the things we say encourage, edify and enlighten; or do they intimidate, hinder and reveal the darkness of the soul? The only way to change those things that flow from our lips is to change our minds and our hearts. Ezekiel tells us that when we give ourselves wholly to the Lord our God, that the Lord "Will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh."[1] If you find yourself speaking as one of the fools, put away your foolishness. If you find yourself in the presence of a fool, do not feed his foolishness; instead, reject it and flee from it.
