Title

The Purpose of Prosperity

Scripture
Deal bountifully with Your servant, that I may live and keep Your word.
(Psalm 119:17)
Devotional
Here we have the purpose of prosperity: that we may keep the Word of the Lord. We are not to seek prosperity for the sake of comfort or security. We are to seek prosperity for the furtherance of the Gospel. Now there is nothing wrong with being physically comfortable and financially secure, as long as these are not the source of your comfort and security. We are to prosper for several reasons. The first is that we might have the time and freedom to minister. Secondly, that we would be heard. You see, few people will listen to a poor man. It is just a fact about life. Successful people are heard.
Who do you read? Who do you admire? Most likely they are successful in their field. Most likely they are prosperous. Therefore, pray that the Lord would deal bountifully with you, that you in turn might live and keep His Word.
Thought For The Night
“This idea that God wants everybody to be wealthy... There is a word for that: baloney. It’s creating a false idol.” However, “No where in the Bible does it say that it is a sin to be rich,” Rick Warren, author of the Purpose Driven Life
