Title

We Are Spiritual Beings

Scripture
The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the inner depths of his heart.
(Proverbs 20:27)
Devotional
The spirit of man is imperishable. It is what makes us eternal beings. Our bodies are temporary dwelling places for our spirits. And our souls are the manifestation of our character. The spirit is who we are. When this body stops functioning and the soul ceases to reveal my personality, my spirit returns to the Lord who created it.[1] James tells us clearly, that the body without the spirit is dead.[2] The body and soul of man can be annihilated, but the spirit is indestructible. It is the lamp that can never be darkened. We are told in Romans, chapter eight, "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God."[3] We are not only spiritual beings we are essentially spiritual beings. Therefore the greater attention is to be given to that eternal spiritual realm which dwells in us and in which we dwell. Jesus said, "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." [4]
