Title

The Government of a Godly People

Scripture
Mercy and truth preserve the king, and by Lovingkindness he upholds his throne.
(Proverbs 20:28)
Devotional
As surely as it is the responsibility of government to find and punish the wicked, it is likewise its responsibility to do so with Lovingkindness, mercy and truth. Wise benevolent leadership knows that mercy triumphs over judgment.[1] To have laws without mercy is to have them without truth. It is not one or the other; it is having laws governed by mercy and mercy governed by truth. This is Lovingkindness. As with punishment, mercy must be a part of every institution. In the home or in the community knowing when to punish and when to show mercy requires that leadership is walking in the truth. The only thing worse than government without law is government without mercy. For any government to function properly and survive, law and punishment, mercy and truth must be inseparable. This form of government requires the Spirit of God. It is the government of a godly people.
