Title

Avoid The Drunk And The Glutton

Scripture
Hear, my son, and be wise; and guide your heart in the way. Do not mix with winebibbers, Or with gluttonous eaters of meat.
(Proverbs 23:19-20)
Devotional
Here we have a father's very wise counsel to his son. The apostle Paul says it this way in 1 Corinthians 15:33, "Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character."[1] Drunks and gluttons all eventually come to poverty.[2] When they are practicing their indulgence, avoid them. You cannot reason with a drunk or a glutton. If you find them sober and wish to attempt to win them from their vice you may have a chance to do so. However, while in their stupor you are only taking to the alcohol and substance and there is no reasoning with them. The same applies to drugs. The drug user is likewise unable to receive sound wisdom. Love them, but mark them. Do not associate with their ways. Your sobriety is not contagious. Their plight is neither to be acceptable nor even found humorous. It is too destructive to be seen as anything other than sad.
