Title

Generational Degeneration

Scripture
We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.
(Psalm 106:6)
Devotional
The sins of history do have a way of repeating themselves. The things that we hate about our past inevitably are the things we repeat, especially when those who experienced them are gone. The difference however, is that when the sins of the past are repeated they are more than likely repeated more wickedly. If the son of a drunkard becomes a drunkard, he will do so even more obsessively. When the sins of the fathers are passed down from generation to generation, they are also multiplied from generation to generation. There is only one way to stop generational degeneration that is by being born anew. Only by placing our faith in Christ can we halt this passing on and multiplying of our innate sin nature and likewise ministering it to our children and our children's children. Generational sin is contagious; righteousness is not. It must be purposefully received through faith in Christ.
