Title

Watch For Liberty Stealers

Scripture
False brethren secretly brought in (who came in by stealth to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage).
(Galatians 2:4)
Devotional
The phrase, "false brethren" is a scary thought. If they existed in the first century church, surely they are prevalent in the twenty-first century church. We in the church focus more on the dangers of the libertines than the legalist. Yet, the apostle Paul warns the Galatians more about those who would steal our liberty in Christ more than those who would make us legalist in Christ. There must be an awareness of both the libertines and the legalist. We must understand that the law of Christ is found in the perfect law of liberty.[1] We are at liberty to love the Lord with all our hearts, minds and souls. We are at liberty to keep all of His commandments, "And His commandments are not burdensome."[2] Galatians 5:13 likewise tells us we, "Have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another."[3]
