Title

The Doctrinal Fool

Scripture
Like a thorn that goes into the hand of a drunkard is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
(Proverbs 26:9)
Devotional
There are few filled with more emotion than a dunk. He or she is more than often filled with either compassion or anger. I have incountered many drunks who love Jesus. They will cry, repent and promise never to drink again, but it is not they who are speaking it is the intoxicant. Whether alcohol or drugs, you cannot reason with someone who is inebriated. Likewise are the foolish with the wise saying of God. They are also either filled with compassion or anger. With these there is no reasoning. They are drunk with their own misunderstanding of God's Word. Just like the thorn that goes into the hand of the drunkard, he or she does not know that they are foolishly wounded. Like the drunkard, the doctrinal fool says, "They have struck me, but I was not hurt; they have beaten me, but I did not feel it. When shall I awake, that I may seek another drink?"[36]
