Title

You Are Not A Dog Nor A Pig

Scripture
As a dog returns to his own vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.
(Proverbs 26:11)
Devotional
The apostle Peter adds to this proverb in his second letter, "And,‘[as] a sow, having washed, returns to her wallowing in the mire.’”[1] Fall once in a ditch, it will be called an accident. Fall the second time into the same ditch, it is foolishness. Yet that is exactly what we do when we willfully walk in rebellious sin. And there is no other kind of sin than “rebellious sin.” How foolish to have quit a bad habit and after a time of victory start that habit again. How very foolish to have walked away from an inordinate relationship and to walk back into it again. The only difference is that a dog is a dog, and a pig a pig. When we do the very things we know not to do, this repulsively ugly analogy fits to the letter. We are not dogs or pigs. No matter how cute or cuddly you may think these animals are, they are not created in the image of God. And even if you are dyslexic, you are not created in the image of dog.
