Sober-minded Youth

Scripture
Exhort the young men to be sober-minded.
(Titus 2:6)
Devotional
To be sober-minded is to be self-controlled. And to truly be self-controlled, one has to be Spirit led. Youth is nothing new. Each generation of young people seem to think that they are the only people who have ever been young and that older folks just don't understand. We've all been there and we've all done that. The problem repeatedly arises when the mature attempt to reason with the reasoning of the immature. It is not the duty of parents for example to understand their children as much as it the duty of children to understand their parents. This is to be sober-minded. There is zeal in youth, but seldom the wisdom that comes with the passing of time. We need to listen to our children, but not half as much as they need to listen to the authorities in their lives. This we do realizing that the natural inclination of youth is to reject authority. To get the young to respect and heed godly authority is by all means the beginning of being sober-minded.
