Title

He Merely Spoke

Scripture
He has made the earth by His power; He has established the world by His wisdom.
(Jeremiah 51:15)
Devotional
The power of God is His word. The New Living Translation says in the 33rd Psalm, “The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the world, and all the stars were born.”(1) God created the heavens and the earth by the word of His mouth. He spoke everything there is into existence. In His wisdom He established the government of His creation. Government is simply the way things are to function. He created the heavens and the earth by His word. His wisdom directed the order of the universe. Therefore, if you cannot see the hand of God in His creation, surely you can see it in the order of things. To say that the universe is chaos and randomness is to proclaim that there is no such thing as order. The psalmist describes those who make this proclamation, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’”(2)

(1) Psalm 33:6 NLT, (2) Psalm 14:1

Thought For The Day
“The precious things of the earth, the coal and the diamonds, the iron and clay and gold, may be said to have come from His hands; but the live things come from His heart—from near the same region whence ourselves we came.” George MacDonald, Unspoken Sermons, (1824-1905) Scottish minister who greatly influenced C. S. Lewis

Questions To Ponder
  • Did God have to strain to create the universe?
  • Does He have to exert Himself to meet your needs?
Is there anything too difficult for Him to accomplish
