Title

Godly Fear

Scripture
A wise man fears and departs from evil, but a fool rages and is self-confident.
(Proverbs 14:16)
Devotional
As a child there was no greater deterrent to wrongdoing than the fear of my parents. The fear that I had for them was only outmatched by my love for them. Godly fear does produce great love. This wisdom I learned from the fear of my parents and then the fear of the Lord. The Word of God is clear, "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God."[1] Those who fear God the most also seem to love Him most and are more than quick to depart from evil. Those without godly fear rage and are filled with themselves. Even though they would never believe it, God says that they are fools. Think about the proud and boastful people that you may know; without doubt they have no fear of God. And they rage against the things of God: His word, His people and His church. They are faultfinders and great antagonist against those with godly fear.
