Title

Desire His Beauty

Scripture
One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord.
(Psalm 27:4)
Devotional
Of all the desires King David could have had, he desired to be in God’s house. The average Christian in America attends church two or three times per month---for a total of four or five hours. Many watch more television in one day. Why, why, is it that we do not have David’s desire to be in God’s house? Sadly, the reason, I believe, is manifold: we have a greater desire for the things of this world than we do the things of God’s kingdom. We seek pleasure more than we seek God. We fail to see the beauty of the Lord in His people.
It was not just being in the temple that David desired; it was the presence of the Lord that he desired. However, the two should not be separated. Whenever and wherever we are gathered in His name, it is there that He dwells. (1) We cannot separate the presence of the Lord from His body, the Church. If the beauty of the Lord is not seen in the Church, His bride, where then can it be found?
