Keeping Our Words Afloat

Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.

Devotional
Were Samuel's words true because the Lord was with him or was the Lord with Samuel because his words were true? The answer must be yes to both. The Lord spoke to Samuel and Samuel spoke the words of the Lord. Here we have the direction given to all who call upon the name of the Lord, and all who proclaim the name of the Lord. We are to speak only what we hear and know to be true. There is no room for baseless knowledge. We are not to govern our lives by what we feel or by what may appear to be fitting to a situation. Situational ethics, morals, and principles are not the means by which we are to manage our lives. Our lives are to be managed by the Word of the Lord. God reveals Himself to us by the prompting of His Spirit and the revelation of His Word. These will never contradict each other. If there is a contradiction, the written Word of God is the final authority. If we, like Samuel, listen to the Lord with an ear that leans toward obedience, our words will likewise not fall to the ground.
