Title

Fearing Nothing

Scripture
There they are in great fear where no fear was.
(Psalm 53:5)
Devotional
This so often seems to be the commentary on the Church in our day---God’s people fearing where there is to be no fear. We fear loneliness, people, the signs of our times, and we fear death. These things the Bible says we are not to fear. How can we fear loneliness when Christ has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you?” Why should we fear people when the Bible says, “The fear of man brings a snare?” Why would we fear those things that Christ said would surely come to pass? The problem is that we fear the wrong things. If we feared God we would fear nothing else. I am afraid that we have so focused on the love of God that we have neglected the wrath and judgment of God. Godly fear is a powerful restraint. Listen to Proverbs 19:23, “The fear of the Lord leads to life, and he who has it will abide in satisfaction; he will not be visited with evil.”
