Title

Acquiring David’s Heart

Scripture
Then King David ...said, “Who am I, O Lord God? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far?
(2 Samuel 7:18)
Devotional
The more closely we listen to David, the more we can understand why he was a man after God’s own heart. David realized that it was not his talents or heritage that brought him to the place of honor and power. He knew that it was solely the favor and kindness of God. His words were never rhetorical or trite. He was not just trying to say the right things to impress God. He was saying the right things because that is what was in him. Oh, to have David’s heart, to be able to speak only those things that are real and alive in us; to speak only those things that are filled with truth, and not speak to tickle the ears or impress the hearer. These are the things that helped make David a man after God’s own heart. These are the things that can change our hearts. We, by the power of the Holy Spirit, can likewise acquire this kind of a heart.
