Title

Am I a Whisperer?

Scripture
A perverse man sows strife, and a whisperer separates the best of friends.
(Proverbs 16:28)
Devotional
You know them. They tell things that need not be told and repeat things that need not be repeated. They are the whisperers; they are the perverse. All they know is gloom, doom, and despair. The only good news that they bring is the bad news of others. These are the strife sowers, and they are about the business of separating the best of friends. Avoid them, or at least, do not allow them to feed off your listening ear. If you know them and have a relationship with them, rebuke them with meekness and with fear, lest you likewise become a whisperer and a perverse man or woman.
Likewise, take inventory of yourself. Honestly ask, “Am I a whisperer?” “Am I a perverse person?” “Do the things I say edify or destroy?” “Are my words encouraging or discouraging?” “Can what I say be said aloud to anyone anywhere?” If not, maybe, just maybe, I am a whisperer and a perverse person.
