Title

What Would Jesus Have Me To Do?

Scripture
I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.
(John 13: 15)
Devotional
The greatest form of teaching is by example. The greatest example is Christ. Here He teaches us humility, honor and the blessings of being served and serving. Therefore we ask, “What would Jesus do?” However, the greatest example Jesus gave was His obedience to His Father. Therefore, a better question to ask is, “What would Jesus have me to do?” We never hear Jesus say, “What would My Father do?” But we do hear Him say, “Not My will, but Yours be done,”(1) and “This command I received from My Father,”(2) When we ask, “What would Jesus do?” we speculate and leave room for error. When we ask, “What would Jesus have me to do?” we obey and leave little room for error. Jesus gave us examples and directives; both are to be followed. Let us therefore follow His example of humility and service. Let us likewise follow His example of obedience to His Father. Let us ask, “What would Jesus have me to do?”
