The Wisdom of the Seeker

Scripture
And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?”
(Acts 8:31)
Devotional
The Ethiopian was not only a great leader, he had equal wisdom. He knew enough to know his limitations. He had enough understanding to know that he needed someone to guide him scripturally. This man was obviously a seeker; and God sends messengers to true seekers. Just like King Uzziah, “ As long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper.” We usually make Philip the hero of this story. I would contend that the hero was the Ethiopian. Philip was God’s instrument to bless him. Thirty-one times in the scriptures we find the term “seek the Lord.” God- seekers are God-finders. Let us learn the lesson of seeking from this Ethiopian leader. He was first a student of the Bible. He was looking there for the answers to his questions. He sought the things of God humbly. He was not ashamed to say, “I do not know.” He listened to the preaching of God’s Word and followed Christ in believer’s baptism. This seeker was found.
