Title

Liberated From Sin

Scripture
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
(1 Corinthians 6:12)
Devotional
Not all liberty is beneficial. Our liberty in Christ is liberation from sin. Sin still has its consequences. The wages of sin remains death.(1) Every time we sin, something dies. It may be a relationship, a dream, or endeavor. Yes, Christ has paid the eternal price for sin. Yes, we are eternally forgiven. Nevertheless, to think that sin has no consequences is to diminish the need for the Savior. Sin still requires repentance. Sin is still a stench to God. Consider the apostle Paul’s question to the Romans, “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?”(2) We have been liberated from sin; therefore let us no longer choose to be in bondage to it. All things are lawful in that we have the freedom and liberty to peruse all God has for us.
