Title

Pits and Stones

Scripture
Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, and he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him.
(Proverbs 26:27)
Devotional
As always, we interpret scripture by scripture. We never do so by emotion, feelings or even life’s experiences. Let the Word interpret the Word. Therefore, let us understand this Proverb by another: “Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way, he himself will fall into his own pit.”(1) Jesus said it this way, “For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”(2)
Whether it is in giving or judging another, how and what we do will come back on us. My mother would say it like this: “You’ll always get your comeuppance.”
If we judge, we will be judged. If we accuse, we will be accused. Any wrong that we attempt to do to another will eventually roll back on us. It is simply the law of sowing and reaping. Should I say, the law of digging and rolling? Therefore, let us not dig the pit of vengeance or roll the stone of retribution.
