Title

Count the Sand

Scripture
How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; when I awake, I am still with You.
(Psalm 139:17-18)
Devotional
The next time you are at the beach, pick up a handful of sand, dump it to the ground and look carefully at the grains remaining on your hand. Attempt to count them. Then look up and down the beach; consider the grains of sand on all the beaches and in all seas of the world. The psalmist says that the thoughts God has about you outnumber them. If that does not give you a sense of awe and security nothing will. To even begin to grasp this we have to understand that the dimensions of this realm do not govern the Creator of the universe. He does not dwell in time and space. He dwells in timeless eternity. With regard to time, space and any of the measurements by which we are ruled, He says, “I am”. He is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent. Therefore, for God to think of you more than the sand of the entire universe is nothing for Him. Thus we ask, “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?”(1)
