Pure Water

Scripture
Drink water from your own cistern, and running water from your own well.
(Proverbs 5:15)
Devotional
Desire must be harnessed and controlled or else it will be wasted and polluted. Our text speaks in relation to sexual desires and faithfulness to ones own spouse. We are likewise instructed in 1 Corinthians 7:2-5, "Because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband."[26] Your husband is your own cistern and your wife your own well. God intends for us to be satisfied with them and them alone. Any other water is polluted water. Any other fountain is defiled. We can assist each other by staying clean and pure and by presenting ourselves in a fresh, clean manner. No one wants to drink from a dirty glass or an unkempt well. Wells and cisterns like marriages must be maintained. Whether a new spring or a mature well there is a precious beauty when the spring is your own and the well forever faithful.
