Title

Tattoos are Taboo

Scripture
You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord.
(Leviticus 19:28)
Devotional
Our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit; we are not our own.[1] Therefore, our bodies are not to be purposefully mutilated. We have devolved into a trendy people. Fads seem to have dominion, especially over the young. Trends in clothing and hair styles can be changed, scars and tattoos are another matter. At this writing, tattoos are very much in vogue. Logic seems to have lost the battle over reason. Temporal youthfulness does not want to yield to years of wisdom. It is for this reason that we must go to the Word of the Lord for our guidance. The guidance is clear. Therefore tattooing the body is not merely a matter of opinion or style; it is a matter of obedience and honor. If by a stretch of reason one attempts to discredit our text, wisdom will lean toward its simplicity. Shall we honor God by dishonoring our bodies? God forbid.
