It is in all of us

Scripture
Then he began to curse and swear, "I do not know this Man of whom you speak!"
(Mark 14:71)
Devotional
It is in there--ugly and vile lurks in the depths of our being.  Only the presence and the power of Christ in our lives is able to still our inherited sin nature.  Can you imagine Peter, the leader of the leaders, cursing and denying Christ?  It is an awful thing to get to the the point to which Peter arrived.  However, it would have been a greater tragedy if he had remained there.  He did not.  He repented and became all that Christ had intended him to be.  Each of us has the potential to fall into the depths of gross sin.  We do not have to, nor does Christ want us to.  Nevertheless, the potential is there.  If we ever find ourselves in ugly sin, we must stop, turn, repent and run to the cross of Christ.  Let us never allow the potential to sin to govern our ability to repent from sin.  Likewise, as the scripture says, "Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall."
