Eternal Perspective

Scripture
Do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.
(Luke 10:20)
Devotional
In essence, Jesus is saying that no matter what this life brings, no matter how exciting or rewarding it may be, nothing can compare with the promise of eternal life in a place called heaven. What in this life can measure with eternal life in paradises? From life's hardships to it joys, when compared to eternity, it just can't compare. Therefore, no matter what hand life deals us, if we keep in mind the promises of God, we will live a very balanced life. We will not be controlled by emotional highs or devastated by sorrowful lows. Life will be seen more from an eternal perspective than a temporal one. No matter what the present score, we know when the clock runs out, we win. With an eternal perspective we will go through every situation with confidence and certainty. The spirit of fear will rapidly diminish. Godly confidence and boldness will increase. Therefore let us be thankful that our names are written in heaven.
