Title

Don't Dust Old Trophies

Scripture
Remember Lot's wife.
(Luke 17:32)
Devotional
We know the story: the Lord was about to destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah because of the evilness there. The angel of the Lord instructed them to leave and said, "Escape for your life! Do not look behind you…”[1] Well, “His wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.”[2] Jesus also said, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”[3] We cannot return to the past glories of our lives and there are many memories that are best forgotten. Old trophies need not be dusted. Ecclesiastes says it this way, “Do not say, ‘Why were the former days better than these?’ For you do not inquire wisely concerning this.”[4] The best of life is before us. The past cannot be relieved and is good only for historical instruction. Learn from the past, but do not live there. Keep you eyes ahead looking toward the mountain. “Remember Lot’s wife.”
