Scripture
A wrathful man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger allays contention.
(Proverbs 15:18)
Devotional
I know this is true for I "was" a wrathful man.  I wasn't ragingly furious, nevertheless I was easily angered and prone to wrath. Wrath is characterized by the desire for vengeance—you want to get even. It is caused mainly be insecurity and a high level of egotism. Every thing is taken personally and as a direct confrontation. These attitudes bring forth wrath and wrath sirs up unnecessary strife. How do we overcome inordinate anger and harmful wrath? The answer may sound overly simplified and at the same time possibly difficult: slow down your anger. I do my best to wait twenty-four hours to respond to that which makes me angry or to weighty disagreements. If we do not learn to work on our anger our anger will work on us. Anger in itself is not a bad thing. Uncontrolled anger is. Furthermore when we are slow to anger, we will deal with those who do anger us more readily and wisely.
