Title

It's Not About The Trophy

Scripture
I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days.
(1 Kings 3:13)
Devotional
Riches and honor were the mere byproducts of Solomon's true desires: wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Yet there are those who in spite of everything insist on seeking the byproducts instead of the most important product. Benefits are good and to be desired, but they are not to be the sole purpose of life. Those who merely seek life's benefits seldom get them and if they do get them they seldom satisfy. Life is more than rewards; it is about meriting those rewards. The race is not about the trophy. The trophy is a byproduct of the race. Life is most enjoyed by those who give their lives to it. They are servers, vision casters and accomplishers. They make things happen and the byproducts of those things are riches and honor. Yet even if the rewards did not come, winners still run the race. Which do you seek, the race or the trophy?
