Title

Smackable Attitude

Scripture
A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for blows.
(Proverbs 18:6)
Devotional
I have a dear black friend, Tex Burns, who years ago, before he became a Christian, hated white people with a vengeance. He would look for just about any opportunity to fight. After he came to Christ, someone asked him, "Tex, what would you do if a white man walked up to you and smacked you in the face?" Tex without hesitation answered, "That cannot happen, because I do not stand around with a "Smackable attitude." Likewise contentious people have "Smackable attitudes." They invite blows both verbal that at times lead to physical. It may be sport to some to be argumentative or contentious, but it is the sport of fools. No matter how learned or seemingly intelligent a person may be, if he or she is given to these, they will inevitably call for blows. Avoid such a person and above all avoid being such a person. Do not quibble over the trivial. Do not contend for the sake of contending.
