Title

Never Envy The Lost

Scripture
Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the wicked.
(Proverbs 24:19)
Devotional
How foolish of us to envy or be jealous of those who do not know God or have the promise of eternal life. How very foolish of us to envy those whose lives are empty of the joy of the Lord and the promise of heaven. No matter what pleasures this short life brings to evildoers cannot compare to their loss throughout eternity. It is a bad trade to exchange the fullness of eternity for seventy or so years of seemingly sensual pleasure. To fret and envy evildoers is like being jealous of a gnat's life. Even if we suffer in this life we are not to disperse. Listen to the apostle Paul's exhortation, "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."[1] Listen to Psalm 37:1-2, "Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb."[2]
