Title

Our Citizenship

Scripture
Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.
(Ephesians 2:19)
Devotional
When the apostle Paul wrote these words to the Church at Ephesus, he wrote to a predominately Jewish Church under the rule of Rome. Here were God's chosen people who throughout their history were governed and ruled by the laws of God, now under the dictates of a heathen nation. They were strangers and foreigners in not only another land, but even in the Promised Land. But now that they have come to the saving knowledge of Christ, their citizenship had been restored. We like the ancient Church are also citizens of the household of God. However, because we live in the United States of America, we may not be as appreciative of our citizenship in the household of God as the early Church was. We should be, for as great as our nation is, without Christ, we were likewise strangers and foreigners. Citizenship in America is great; citizenship in the household of God is far greater. May it mean as much to us as it did the first century Church.
