Have you ever been there? Have the burdens of life ever been so heavy upon you that you just didn't think that you could handle another proverbial straw? This one simple verse of scripture has the answer: "Strengthen me according to Your word." When life gets heavy and I feel overwhelmed, I read the epistles. My wife Sherry reads the Psalms. I think that she may have a better handle on it than me. There is much comfort in the Psalms. One of her favorites is Psalm 57:1, "Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; and in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, until these calamities have passed by."[25] Whether it is the Psalms or the Gospels, strength and comfort are just a Book away. Instead of turning to depression or drugs, bitterness or alcohol, turn to the Living Word of God and He will strengthen you according to His Word.
