Why Not Both

Scripture
The rich man is wise in his own eyes, but the poor who has understanding searches him out.
(Proverbs 28:11)
Devotional
There is no greater fool than the fool that fools himself. Riches do not make one wise, they make one rich. I have known many a rich fool. A poor man with understanding is far wiser than the rich who is wise in his or her own eyes. With many of this world's rich, as Ecclesiastes says, "The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all."[2] Many rich folks just happened to be in the right place at the right time. However, not all rich are foolish. I have found that those who have gained their wealth through understanding and hard work are filled with wisdom and knowledge and understanding. Just as not all rich folks are wise in their own eyes, not all of the poor have understanding. I prefer to have both.
