Title

Stolen Vengeance

Scripture
For we know Him who said, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord. And again, The Lord will judge His people."
(Hebrews 10:30)
Devotional
Romans 12:19 says it this way, "Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written,  ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.”[1] These New Testament statements are quoting Deuteronomy 32:35.[2] When we take vengeance on another we are taking what does not belong to us. It is more than clear; Vengeance belongs to God and God alone. The best way for me not to attempt to steal, that which belongs to God, is for me not to judge those who belong to God. If I can do the one I will not do the other. If I do not judge, I will not attempt to take vengeance. Likewise, vengeance can never be satisfied in man. It is reserved for God alone. Whenever I attempt to be vengeful, I find that the one who is hurt the most by it is myself. God’s vengeance is and always will be the result of His justice, not ours.
