Title

See Yourself Rightly

Scripture
Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
(Proverbs 3:7)
Devotional
True wisdom is not inherent to man; it is from above. The wisdom that matters is a gift from God and God alone. The Bible says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” Thus there should be no boasting in a gift received. If you find yourself being impressed and pleased with your own words, you may be wise in your own eyes. We are to always realize that wisdom is a gift from God, and that He alone is to be reverenced for it. When we give God the glory for wisdom instead of taking the credit for it we are then departing from evil. “The preparations of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.” Words of wisdom are always spoken with and in humility.
