Title

Giving And Receiving Correction

Scripture
Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
(Proverbs 9:8)
Devotional
Some folks we are to love, but mark, that is there are people who we cannot and should not correct. You know them; they are unteachable and arrogant. If and when we attempt to correct a mocker, he or she will in turn will mock you and hate you for the correction. All we can do is love them. On the other hand, a wise man or woman will listen with an ear leaning towards obedience, desiring to hear truth and follow it's leading. And that person will ultimately love you for it. Therefore choose very carefully and wisely those whom you correct and how you give that correction. Furthermore, if you find yourself rejecting wise counsel and correction, there just may be a bit of a scoffer in you. Swallow hard, repent and learn to honestly listen. And as you listen, purposefully love the one giving the correction. You will be much wiser for it.
