Title

Honesty With God

Scripture
Hear a just cause, O Lord, Attend to my cry; Give ear to my prayer which is not from deceitful lips.
(Psalm 17:1)
Devotional
The God we serve desires for us to be openly honest with Him. He is not interested in our eloquent speech nor our persuasive rhetoric. God’s just not very impressed with us. I truly believe that it’s more important to convince ourselves than to attempt to convince God. That is, we need to tell God our needs and desires so that we can know what they are. He already knows. To do this requires genuine honesty. Listen to the genuineness of the psalmist’s prayer. First, it was a just or legitimate prayer, “Hear a just cause.”. Second, it was heartfelt, “Attend to my cry.” Third, it was honest, “Not from deceitful lips.” Quite simply, we are to be up-front honest with God. Let Him know your cause. Talk to Him from your heart, and above all don’t attempt to con God. He demands honesty.
