Title

Too Much of a Good Thing

Scripture
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep-so shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, and your need like an armed man.
(Proverbs 6:10-11)
Devotional
These verses haunt me. Every time I feel like being a little lazy by staying in bed when I should be getting up, they reverberate in my mind. Although there is nothing wrong with sleeping or slumbering in itself, there is something wrong with doing so when we should be meeting the obligations of the day. Sleep and rest like all areas of life are to be disciplined. We should do our best, when possible, to schedule our rising. I have found if I get up at approximately the same time each morning, that going to sleep will take care of itself. People do need differing amounts of sleep, but most don’t need as much as they take. The Bible strongly indicates that the best and most productive time of the day is the morning hours. Our minds and bodies have rested, making us ready vessels for the Master's use.
