Title

When Good Is Wrong

Scripture
So I spoke to you; yet you would not listen, but rebelled against the command of the Lord, and presumptuously went up into the mountain.
(Deuteronomy 1:43)
Devotional
The Bible clearly teaches that to act presumptuously is a sin. It says in Numbers, “But the person who does anything presumptuously… that one brings reproach on the Lord.” Israel was sent by God to conquer the promised land. Yet, because of their sin, God said do not fight against a certain people, because I will not be with you. They went anyway and were defeated in disgrace. Because something was good to do once, does not justify it twice. It is not always right to do good if God isn’t leading. The world is full of “Do Gooders” who have no reward, because it is self serving good. Here’s the key, God said, “I spoke to you but you did not listen…” Presumption is simply putting your priorities above God’s. Presumption, even when you imagine you're right is arrogance in the sight of God.
